Alan Stringer ARPS, DPAGB
Friday 7th October. A new speaker to the Society, ALAN STRINGER ARPS, DPAGB. brought us an excellent print talk - "Photography My Way" Alan is a darkroom worker and enthralled us with the quality of his prints. The talk was divided into themes, and my picture shows a set of Lith prints taken at Penarth Pier.

Vanessa and Peter
VANESSA HERRING LRPS and PETER PHILLIPS LRPS two of our own members, were our speakers on Friday 30th September. They both showed prints and projected images, also their respective Licentiateship Panels. We were invited to view many excellent pictures not seen before, which illustrated the talent and creativity we have within our own Society. An excellent evening!

Paula Graham ARPS
Friday 9th September brought PAULA GRAHAM ARPS from the depths of Devon with her talk "The Seven Year Itch". Paula has only been into photography since 2003, but displayed a talent for picture-making of many styles. Firstly we were treated to an AV about Storks in Holland and this was followed by many projected images and prints. Her RPS Associate Panel was also on display and this consisted of delicate, beautiful winter pictures of people skating - in Holland, her native country.

London Salon 2010
On Friday 2nd September we viewed selected images from the 2010 London Salon. Before coffee we listened to Margaret Salisbury commenting on her favourite prints and after the break we viewed the other images without comment. Some very creative photography - but for me, some were very disappointing. One of my favourite images can be seen below -

Long Service
As there isn't a meeting to report on this week, I thought I would post a photograph taken this week of our two longest serving society members. Seen in the photograph is Ron Miller who joined the society in 1950 and served as Competition and Exhibition Secretary before becoming Chairman in 1954. He resigned this position in 1962 for health reasons, but remained a member until retiring to Beer in East Devon in the 1980's. The Society conferred upon him the honour of Life Membership in 1988.
The other person in the photograph is current Society President John Long. John received his Life Membership in 2000 thus making this duo the longest serving members and the only two living Life Members. (Photo: Mrs Audrey Miller)

WCPF Print Critique Evening
Friday 19th August brought the WCPF PRINT CRITIQUE EVENING This set of colour and monochrome pictures consist of the the high scoring prints entered for the 2011 Members' Exhibition, which were NOT accepted, and form this collection which travels around the Federation.

Outdoor Portrait session
There was a deafening roar of shutters clicking outside our Hall on Friday 12th August, when Helen Drew modelled for us with an outdoor street fashion session. Apparently in the Far East there is a current fashion for outlandish street clothes, and although my photograph doesn't really demonstrate that - I rather liked this shot. The session was led by Steve Cox.

Second Severn Crossing
Our final 'Evening out' this season took us to the Second Severn Crossing hopefully for a sunset. 15 members and some wives waited patiently, but there wasn't much is a display that evening - as you can see from my picture. You can read more and see some pictures on the Social Page - the work of Joanne Searle.

Ricardo Busi
On Friday 29th July we were treated to a feast of travel, landscape and nature photography from RICARDO BUSI from Italy. Ricardo is a much-traveled photographer and we saw pictures from Bali, Ukraine, USA, Australia and most of the European countries. Ricardo is seen here against the backdrop of one of his excellent nature pictures

We were transported to the Gobi Desert, the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, Inner Mongolia and many other places where steam trains are still be to found. Peter's enthusiasm was very evident! There was also a display board of prints to be seen.

'Those you have loved'
On Friday 17th June, the evening was titled 'THOSE YOU HAVE LOVED' and members were invited to bring along six favourite and loved pictures and talk about them. It proved to be a most interesting evening and rather than feature just one person in my photograph this week, you will see all ten of the members who participated.

Tom Dodd FRPS
Our visitor on Friday 10th June was TOM DODD FRPS who brought us his talk "From the Darkroom and Beyond" The talk was on monochrome photography and Tom displayed his excellent prints from the darkroom and the lightroom. He also gave a demonstration of digital hints and tips on creating mood and atmosphere in Black and White prints.

Shaun Boycott-Taylor ARPS
On Friday 3rd June, one of our own members, SHAUN BOYCOTT-TAYLOR ARPS delivered his talk 'All Aspects of Print Mounting and Presentation' This also included a demonstration of presenting and framing a photograph as seen in the picture.
