JANUARY

Fri 6 CHELTENHAM INTERNATIONAL SALON [DPI]
Tonight is a welcome return of Cheltenham International Salon of Photography. We will see a fine range of top flight images from around the world, set to music. A selection of the accepted images will be seen from the five sections of the Salon, together with all the award winners. This is an evening likely to both entertain and inspire. It will be presented by Richard McLeery.

Travels Towards the Edge [Print/DPI]
Peter and Sue focus on some less frequented destinations. The highlights include a World Heritage Site deep in the Libyan Sahara, a seaside resort full of ghosts in Cambodia, and a couple of active volcanoes in Java. Not to mention a brief encounter with Eagle Hunters in Western Mongolia.

Highlands and Islands – Scottish Wildlife [DPI]
Wildlife of the Scottish Highlands & Islands (mostly birds) together with a few scenic/habitat images!

Fri 27 BOB BRAY* AND DAVID SAGE* ARPS
Lacock, A Changing English Village, 70 years on [Print/DPI & AV]]
Harold White FRPS was asked by the British Council in 1944 to capture life in English Villages. Lacock was chosen to show the American forces what they were fighting for.

Our series of photographs either replicate some of Harold Whites images or depict Lacock as it is today. We leave it to you to decide if Lacock has changed.


FEBUARY

Fri 03 STUDIO EVENING
This evening will be led by Mike Martin who has set very high expectations of the quality of models he finds for us. If this is a new genre of photography Mike and other more experienced studio photographers will willingly guide you. Bring your cameras and tripods if you wish.

Inspiration and Perspiration [Print/ DPI]
A talk from the Tilsleys in 2 halves! John shows prints (mono & colour) in the first half, with the chance to look closely at them during the break, and then it’s PDIs from Di in the second half. The title will be explained, but the evening will include images from home and abroad and across a wide range of subjects

Fri 24 PRINT & DPI CRITIQUE EVENING
Tonight gives an opportunity for all members to bring along their images. Constructive comment will be offered if sought but this is also a chance to share your photography with other members.

This is an evening of landscape and abstract prints together with DPIs of wildlife and travel from experts in their field.

Photography, Personal and Practical [Prints]
This print talk features a selection of Gabriel’s favourite images taken over the last three years. Gabriel will also show the start images on a number of composites and finish off with a selection of his personal images of his friends and family portrayed as he sees them.

Fri 31 DIGITAL WORKSHOP
RAY GRACE ARPS, DPAGB
Our friend of long-standing, Ray, will help answer any problems that members are having with Photoshop and provide guidance on how to get the most from an image. Questions in advance are invited.

Mongolia [DPIs]
The images you will see are the ones that I took as I walked alongside the Kazakhs as they moved around 1,000 animals through mountainous terrain, in conditions of -26° and below. The images consist of the animals and Kazakhs and family members.

These competitions are for related sets of three DPIs and Prints respectively. Our Competition Secretary will provide notes on how to produce DPI triptychs. Our judge is David Southwell

More than Mountains [Prints]
Tonight we will see mainly A2 prints to be shown in panels. There will be a variety of subject matter, including landscape, people, travel, nature, sport. So, hopefully, something for all!

What I Do [DPI]
Graham’s portfolio covers many fields including press, PR, wedding, portrait and live music photography. It’s worth mentioning that Graham has reached the final of the Welsh National Wedding Awards for the last 5 years and has photographed many live acts such as Status Quo, Lionel Richie and Meat Loaf, and has also been published in The Times, Guardian & Le Monde to name but a few!

Fri 19 OUTDOOR STUDIO EVENING
Once again, Mike Martin will ensure we have marvellous models and he will lead our evening. This will afford the chance to experiment how to maximise the most of the end of day light.

Fri 09 PETER HAWORTH* ARPS
Landscapes and Seascapes [DPI/Print]
Peter demonstrates an approach to Landscape and Seascape photography including pre-visual, light and filters and composition through a critique of his images.

In the second half of the evening, Peter considers colour in landscapes and seascapes, and compares the visual impact of colour or black and white and the suitability of subjects for black and white.

Fri 16 SUMMER NIGHT OUT

Fri 23 10 MINUTES OF FAME
Tonight offers members the chance to ‘show off’ their photography and, if wished, to invite constructive criticism on how their images are perceived by viewers.

Most importantly, don’t be shy, bring along your prints or DPIs so we can all enjoy your moment and see what captures your imagination to press the shutter button!!

This is a two part digital presentation of creative architectural photography, followed by a presentation of traditional landscape photography.

Tonight gives the chance for less experienced members to submit images for others to work on to see whether an exhibition quality image can be produced. Please join in for what should be an interesting evening.

Share the View through my Lens [Print/DPI/AV]
Roy starts with digital aviation photography, emphasising achieving dynamic and interesting flight shots at UK air shows. After the break Roy shows his progress as he concentrated on his first love, which is wildlife photography, from both home and abroad.

Journey to FRPS and Beyond [Print/AV]
In the first half, Andy will describe his journey from ARPS to FRPS, which will include the various ideas for a Fellowship panel which didn’t quite work out. We will then be treated by seeing Andy’s successful panel.
The second half will be a selection of AV sequences.

Tonight gives the opportunity for two of our Programme Advertisers to give us a presentation.
Stephen Dury will talk about how our vision plays its part in a variety of different ways in the life of a photographer and how eyesight translates in the use of and adjustments in camera optics. Dean Wood & Bob Rocca will tell us about the latest developments at Smart Computers and what the most popular purchases are amongst the discerning photographic community.

The Results – a celebration of these events

Wildlife Images from My Travels [Print/DPI]
Images and anecdotes from trips Ralph has been lucky enough to complete in the last two years. This talk includes mainly wildlife and nature images but also landscape and perhaps the odd person or two. It is a mixture of prints (first half) and digital, mainly from Alaska, Kenya and Bulgaria.

Fri 13 ED COLLACOTT
A Passion for Landscapes [Prints]
This is a talk that explains Ed’s lifelong passion for our landscape. It will include viewing his collection of fine art prints that highlight the stunning nature, seasonal variation and textural diversity to be found in the British countryside. In addition, Ed will show a few old favourites but mostly new images from recent travels.

Fri 20 STUDIO EVENING
The last of our Studio Evenings of the year but we know Mike Martin who will be leading this evening, will ensure we have an exceptionally talented model. It is just up to us to decide how to capture him or her. Remember to bring your cameras and tripods if you wish.

Fri 27 AUDIO VISUAL FORUM
Accompanying sequences of images with an audio track of music or dialogue is one way of sharing a collection of your photographs. Tonight gives the chance for members to show recently created AVs.

Fri 10 THE 68TH MEMBERS’ ANNUAL EXHIBITION
The judges are Martin Fry FRPS, AFIAP, AV-AFIAP, BPE3*, APAGB, Michael Krier ARPS, MA (Photography) and Mike Birbeck FRPS, FBPPA, FDPS
Tonight is very special for KPS members as it gives the opportunity for their prints and projected images to be on show. The evening is open to all so please make it a night to celebrate Society Photography by coming along with your friends and family.

Portfolio [DPI/Print]
Portfolio is a talk which covers most of the subjects that Christine generally photographs, from landscape and architecture to nature, people and montage. It is a mixture of pictures for pleasure and pictures for exhibition and competition.

This is the one meeting of the year for members only. It is a time to relish the highs of the past year, shape the future of KPS, and elect your Committee.

Colin says that he has always had an individualistic approach to photography and this is reflected in his talk. His aim is to pass on some of his ‘tricks of the trade’ and show how these can be achieved with a limited amount of effort without having a vast knowledge of photo editing software.
